You could just chill and let everything slide... but should you?

Why should you stay focused now - not later (before it's to late) You sit down to finally get some work done... and suddenly you're three hours deep in conspiracy theories about why pigeons aren't real. Or mayby you planned to be productive, but your phone whispered,'' just one more tiktok...'' and now you know every dance trend but still haven't started your assignment.

But why?

Future You Will Either Thank You or Hate You

Imagine this: It’s a year from now. Future You is either living their best life because you decided to get your act together today… or they’re sitting in the same spot, still watching cat videos and wondering why nothing has changed.

Action step: Do one thing today that Future You will be proud of. No, not another deep dive into “why the moon landing was fake.” Something useful.

Distractions Are Like That One Toxic Friend

You know the one. They always convince you to do dumb things, and later, you regret it. Distractions works the same way. You tell yourself you’ll take a "quick break," and suddenly it’s three days later and you’ve mastered the lore of every Marvel character ever.

Action step: Set a timer for 25 minutes, put your phone in another room, and actually do something productive.  ''Yes, it will be painful. Yes, you will survive.''

Success Won’t Magically Appear (Unless You’re a Lottery Winner, in Which Case, Congrats)

People who win at life didn’t get there by binge-watching Netflix and hoping for the best. They showed up, put in the work, and stayed consistent. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to start.

Action step: Make a to-do list. No, not a "Think about making a to-do list" list. An actual one. Then, pick the easiest thing and do it. Momentum is everything.

But how, where do you start?

  • Use the 5-Second Rule – Count down from 5 and take action before your brain talks you out of it.
  • Break Tasks into Smaller Steps – Big tasks feel overwhelming. Chop them into tiny, doable steps.
  • Use the 2-Minute Rule – If something takes less than 2 minutes, do it immediately. No excuses.
  • Set a Timer – Try the Pomodoro technique: 25 minutes of focus, then a 5-minute break. Repeat.
  • Block Distractions – Use apps like Forest or Freedom to stop yourself from scrolling.
  • Find an Accountability Partner – Tell a friend your goal so they can call you out when you slack.
  • Reward Yourself – Give yourself a small treat when you complete a task (but not before).
  • Change Your Environment – Move to a quiet space or a new location to reset your focus.
  • Listen to Focus Music – Try lo-fi beats or instrumental soundtracks to stay in the zone.
  • Visualize Success – Picture Future You being proud of your progress. Now go make it happen.
  • Eliminate Unnecessary Decisions – Plan outfits, meals, and priorities in advance to save mental energy.
  • Make a To-Do List (and Actually Use It) – Prioritize the top 3 tasks you must complete today.
  • Get Enough Sleep – Being tired = zero focus. Aim for at least 7 hours.
  • Move Your Body – A quick workout or stretch can reset your brain and boost concentration.
  • Just Start – Even if you don’t feel like it. Motivation follows action, not the other way around.

Which of these are you going to try first?

''because, let’s face it, later often means never''

My Journey: From Procrastination to Progress

Ok ok... I’ll admit it—I used to be that person. You know, the one who SWORE they’d start their assignment early… and then somehow ended up watching “10 Unbelievable Facts About Space” at 2 AM. Focusing felt impossible. I’d tell myself, “I’ll start tomorrow,” but tomorrow kept turning into next week.

Then, something clicked. I realized that every distraction was pushing me further away from my dreams, one of them is becoming an architect. The more I wasted time, the further that goal slipped from my reach. So, I decided to change. If I’m not mistaken, you’ve already read about the steps I took to improve my concentration. It has been helpful to me, and I hope this article has been just as helpful to you.

If you really want it and start your journey here get this book: Find your focus.

Focusing isn’t always easy, but I can tell you this: Future You is waiting. Every small step you take today gets you closer to your dreams. So, what are you going to do right now to make Future You proud?
